My mama lives in Georgia, and I miss her everyday. She is having not the best year, and I wanted to send her a gift that would make her smile, not only when she opened it, but every time she used it. I couldn't think of what to buy, so I went ahead and made it, homemade gifts are the best!
I saw something like this on Pinterest (of course) and I thought it would be perfect. Every morning with her coffee, my Mom could be reminded that I love her! Perfecto.
What you'll need: 2 White Mugs, Sharpies (choice of color is all yours), eyeliner, scissors...
... tape and cutouts of the states you want to use. Do a Google search and print and cut them out.
After you cut out the state shapes, tape them in the position you want on the clean white mugs. (If you are confident enough in your drawing skills, you could skip this step and draw them on without the cutouts, I wanted to make sure I got it just right though!)
Carefully trace around the states with the eyeliner until you get it right. After you are happy with the shape you have, slowly and carefully trace just outside of the eyeliner line with the Sharpie.
Peel away the peper cut outs and ta-da and gently remove the eyeliner line, you're almost done! Sit the mugs next to each other .
Draw a heart on each state where the 2 recipients live. Connect them with a dotted line. Get creative, swirl it around to make it interesting!
I added some additional little details on the mug my Mom would be getting. The hardest part of this whole project was writing on the inside of the mug (but she's worth it!).
Heat the oven to 350˚F. Place the mugs on a baking sheet and bake for 45 minutes, this will set the Sharpie to make it washable!
<3 from NYC to my mama. You keep the mug that has the state on it you don't live in and send the one you do to the lucky recipient!
We all have people that are a bit too far to see regularly, who are you going to make these for?
