I love things. Yes. All things. Border-line hoarder, maybe. Lover of junk, definitely. As you know, I like -read LOVE- to peruse the aisles at craft and dollar stores and add some pizazz to the plain pieces I find. I also love custom art. There are so many cookie-cutter pieces out there, why not put your own spin on something!
I love trays. Serving trays (breakfast in bed anyone?) and trays used for organization. Want to know a secret to a quick fix of a messy coffee table, a tray. If Emily Hendserson says so, I believe it. So how about we get moving and turn a dull shadowbox picture frame into a beautiful spring serving tray.
SUPPLIES / Simple flat back shadowbox picture frame (this one would work and it's only $11.50), Pretty paper (or pictures?!) to fill the open space, white paint (or white primer, whatever you have laying around!), Mod Podge Outdoor, and some brushes.
1 / Remove the wall hanging piece, we will not need that for a tray silly!
2 / Give the frame a rough coat of primer or white paint, whatever you decided to use, I used primer. Let it dry completely, should really only take about 20 minutes.
3 / When it is dry, go over it again and get the full coverage we are looking for. Let it dry again, maybe a bit longer than the first coat, JUST TO BE SURE.
4 / With a brush, give the inside of the frame a nice coat of Mod Podge.
5 / Carefully lay your paper, or pictures, down onto the Mod Podge (it's just like glue!), and push out all the air bubbles you can. (Mine isn't perfect, it's ok!)
6 / When everything is nice and dry, give the ENTIRE THING, including the paper, a coat of the Outdoor Mod Podge. This will feel weird for you at first (I know, it's sticky!) but it will seal everything in real nice so that the paper (and the frame) are protected!
And there you have it, a custom serving tray, accompanied by our polka-dot mugs, some Banana Nut Cupcakes and a hot cup of tea, I don't think theres a better way to start the day!
Choose any pattern, or paint color you like. You could even make some copies of family photos and lay them out on the base, the possibilities are endless! What will yours look like?
